Arizona PTA Supports Prop 100

The Arizona Parent Teacher Association, one of the State's largest and most prominent child advocacy groups, has extended its support by publicly backing Prop 100, the 1-cent sales tax increase proposed by the Arizona State legislature to generate revenue to fund K-12 public education, public safety, and health and human services.      School district officials across the state face dramatic cuts in education funding for the 2010-2011 school year. The decision on the size of cuts will be left up to the public since they will be voting in May on Proposition 100, a 1-cent sales tax to help fund education.     Arizona per-pupil funding is currently among the lowest in the nation. Public schools across our state have already absorbed several rounds of cuts in 2009.  Arizona public schools are experiencing increased class sizes, cuts to extra-curricular activities and athletics, and the loss of PE, music, librarians, books and even paper as a direct result of these cuts. Arizona PTA feels that this 1-cent sales tax will help ease the burden of having to do more with less that our children face in the classroom, especially in our most economically depressed areas.       The 1-cent sales tax would be in place for three years and would generate $900 million in revenue, and $428 million of this amount would be used for K-12 education.   Arizona PTA has over 23,000 members spanning the entire state. It was founded in 1906, prior to Arizona's official statehood. The current President of Arizona PTA is Betty Garcia-Pendley.
The Arizona PTA encourages all of its members & the public to VOTE YES on May 18, 2010 in the special election in support of Prop 100.

Anthem School PTA Walk-a-thon The Anthem School PTA is sponsoring a Walk-a-Thon on Wednesday, April 21st at Anthem School. Anticipated budget cuts state-wide mean less money for Anthem School. Money collected from this fund raising effort will go towards school enhancements and technology.
Our goal for this Walk-a-Thon is to raise $10,000.
You can help support our school by sponsoring a child in this Walk-a-Thon. They will be walking for approximately 30 minutes on a track that is 1/8 mile long. You can sponsor me on a per lap basis, or you can show your support by offering a single donation for this event.   Click for walk-a-thon details and pledge form.

2009-10 Reflections Program Theme: "Beauty is..!"

PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas:  dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage). For nearly 40 years, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art. The Reflections Program was started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson.

Students participate in the Reflections Program by submitting entries to their local PTA or PTSA. Any PTA/PTSA in good standing is eligible to sponsor a Reflections Program.

Rules and deadlines are not the same for all PTAs. Contact your state PTA for specific guidelines. www.azpta.org
